- NETL, HIFLD, New Mexico OCD, and Colorado OGCC are not status authority for Texas.
- Inactive is not abandoned.
- Orphan is not abandoned.
- Historical and missing status are not abandoned.
- Plugged and abandoned is confirmed only with explicit official RRC evidence.
- Well proximity is not gas deliverability, capacity, pressure, or service.
- Well proximity is not oil liability.
- EIA natural gas pipelines are public pipeline context, separate from wells.
What the map shows
Natural gas wells are on. Oil, mixed oil and gas, and other/unknown are off until you turn them on. Those toggles do not share counts, rings, or exports. The confirmed plug label is Plugged and abandoned, confirmed. Anything short of an RRC plug date or a linkable plug document stays unconfirmed, including a plugged-well map symbol.
Rings are 0.25, 0.5, 1, 5, and 10 miles, measured in EPSG:3081 (Texas Centric Lambert), not Web Mercator. You can upload a GeoJSON polygon or draw one.
The Cameron points shipped with the site are fixtures for Harlingen-Rio Hondo (dataset_origin: fixture). They are not a live RRC extract. See docs/well-methodology.md and docs/adapters.md in the repo for the MFT well layer (well061.zip), schedule CSV path, and MapServer QA layers.
